Maggie’s Pick 10.30.2014: “Ghost of You” by Good Charlotte & “The Ghost of You” by My Chemical Romance

Today I found out that my beloved bike has been stolen. I’ve been walking around all day throwing longing glances at bike racks. I am haunted.

So ghost Picks.

This is one of my favorite music videos of all time.

Maggie’s Pick 10.29.2014: “When I Grow Up To Be A Man” by The Beach Boys

Ok, so this isn’t really my Pick. This is a special guest Pick from a very special birthday boy (birthday man?), Picked because of its summer vibe (the warmest of all the seasons) and its being about growing up, which is birthday-topical.

This is also a break from the Halloween picks, because just because your birthday happens to occur near a holiday doesn’t mean your birthday has to be about that holiday. Anyways. The Pick:

Maggie’s Pick 10.28.2014: “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder

More Halloweeeeeeeeeen-related Picks. This song is not to be confused with “Higher Ground,” though they are both fantastic.

“Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin’ glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don’t understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain’t the way”

Nevertheless I am superstitious, though I do believe four-leaf clovers can counteract broken-mirror-bad-luck if you find enough of them.

Maggie’s Pick 10.27.2014: “Sally’s Song” by Amy Lee

So this week we’re mostly going to do Halloween-themed Picks, excluding Wednesday. I love all the music from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and I love Evanescence, so front woman Amy Lee’s cover of “Sally’s Song,” my favorite song from the whole movie, is basically ear candy to me.

Here is the original for comparison:

I thought that today might be a melancholy sort of Monday, and I was right on some notes, though I personally have mostly had a good day. So far. Also I need to watch “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on repeat for awhile.

Maggie’s Pick 10.25.2014: “My Moon My Man” by Feist & “My Love” by The Bird and the Bee

Today was the first Saturday in quite a few Saturdays when I didn’t have anywhere to be in the morning, so I indulged in sleeping in. Today is a sort of dreamy sandwich for me: dreamy morning, lively afternoon, dreamy evening. I think this is the first time I’ve been well-rested in months.

So today is perfect for these two Picks. I pair them because I first heard them both on the same day in July, and they both immediately went to my “someday” list of Picks. They both have this lovely, ethereal, dreamy sort of musical quality, especially on the choruses and in the harmonies.

Similar lyrical content too, but mostly it’s the ethereal choruses. I could be dreaming right now, listening to them.

Maggie’s Pick 10.24.2014: “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne

Cougar Pick 3, also known as the song that reminds me of the time 5 years ago that I hosted a Halloween party and my friends sang this song to my mom, subbing in “Maggie’s Mom” for “Stacy’s Mom.”

Also, as much as I don’t like the story of this song, I find the whole thing and this wonderfully executed accompanying video quite hilarious. Rather rude, but very funny.
