Maggie’s Pick 5.4.2016: “August” by Bear Trap + 2 Star Wars songs

Hi kids. I’m blogging again.

Adulthood really hit me hard and completely knocked me off the blogging bandwagon. I’ve been wanting to get back to arbitrarily selecting songs for days recently, but early May is a minefield of holidays (May Day, primary Tuesday, May the Fourth, Cinco de Mayo).

As kind of an ironic nod to the fact that I haven’t blogged since August, I picked a song called August. After this, I’m going to try to Pick songs that are May-themed, but this month will probably also be kinda LDR-themed, as my life continues to be LDR-themed.

Anyways, song:

This song is better listened to with earbuds than speakers. Not sure why.

Also, it’s May the Fourth be with you (yay puns), so I have this, which brings me endless amusement when I listen to it:

And this, also funny, which reminds me of high school:

Yay blogging.

Maggie’s Pick 8.17.2015: Magical Monday: “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure + AFI cover

So there’s nothing explicitly magic in this song, but I think it just sounds magical, so I’m Picking it. My blog, my rules.

“‘Why are you so far away?'” she said
“‘Why won’t you ever know that I’m in love with you
That I’m in love with you?'”

Almost identical cover:

NaPoWriMo #6: “In pursuit of a thing which does not exist” by Maggie McGinity

In pursuit of a thing which does not exist
By Maggie McGinity

Some say it has four letters
Some say there’s always better
But I cannot believe that it’s not true

Some say you cannot control others
But for myself, there’s always another
Standard which I hold myself to

I believe it’s reachable
Though, I’m told, unteachable,
And foolish and heartbreaking to pursue

I won’t settle for second best
With each defeat, I feel less and less
Staring into the horizon for my due

Although it’s slow
And my waiting is so
Suspect
I do not go
Until I know
It’s perfect.”

Quote:

“But I am learning that perfection isn’t what matters. In fact, it’s the very thing that can destroy you if you let it.”
-“Something Borrowed” by Emily Giffin

NaPoWriMo #5: “Midnight” by Maggie McGinity

Midnight
By Maggie McGinity

Down goes the speed of the productivity
Electricity
And reliant technology
Down go the hopes and away the dreams
Lying to yourself
In good time laying down may help
Now, though, press on
Enough, but disregard the time till dawn”

Quote:

“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
-“The Salmon of Doubt” by Douglas Adams

Maggie’s Pick 2.19.2015: The Color Picks: “Gray or Blue” by Jaymay

Five months and one day ago, I scheduled a study session with a friend at the library.

I thought about Picking this song then, as a sort of hint, but then I decided I was done hinting. (I was also a bit concerned about the lyrics in this song that imply other people and cheating, because that’s not what this was/is/will be about)

Later that day I decided I was done trying to make things more than they were. I didn’t put in my contacts, didn’t put on makeup, didn’t brush my hair, because I figured it didn’t matter.

And as it turned out, it didn’t. Just not in the way I expected.

Also, I know they’re sometimes gray, and sometimes blue, but usually green. Like mine.
