‘A Mask of Jade’ (new poem)

London full of tourists.

London full of smokers.

London lacking cherry coke.

“A Mask of Jade

By Maggie McGinity
London is passé.
Sick of tourism. I’d like
To stay, here, always.
Can’t stand one more day.
Not in zone one, two. I’d like
To stay, there, always.”
“Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I’m only falling apart
There’s nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart”
– “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
“You put me on the line
And hung me out to dry
And darling that’s when I
Decided to go to sea.”
-“Swallowed in the Sea,” by Coldplay

‘Call, Lovely Linger, Call’ (new poem)

Moody Maggies make for murky poetry, and WordPress is a worthy study break. Enjoy!

Call, Lovely Linger, Call
By Maggie McGinity

Calm the escape I once found here.
Leaven the rise of falls and fears.
Imagine a simple, succinct grounding,
Not this manic mass I’m founding,
Gulls around, surrounding.

Look! Something shiny on the hook
If we swoop down
Turn it over
Take a look and see what
Lesson(s) can be made
Epiphanies of beaded braid

Let us, this lone shine, take it.
If we should chance to break it,
All will still be fine and dandy,
Roving roads still here and handy.

Calligraphy and the one, two, three.
Long live amor’s anarchy.
Imagine a world where this doesn’t matter,
Never a clang, never a clatter,
Going on and on. Awake to shatter.”

“Time was passing like a hand waving from a train I wanted to be on.
I hope you never have to think about anything as much as I think about you.”
-Jonathan Safran Foer

‘You Promised Forever’ (new poem)

This is my 100th post, and it’s time to explain, one of the main reasons I ever started this blog:

A year ago today I wrote a very foolish and lengthy letter.

A year ago today I was in limbo-land, in love with a young(and it’s important to add this qualifier, as I feel there in something gained in age that youth lacks) man who was far away, where he could only be reached by letter.

The letter I wrote a year ago was, somewhat subconsciously, designed as a test. You see, boys have a tendency of making rather outlandish promises to me, promises they have no intention or capability of keeping. As it was, I didn’t even receive the address I needed to send the letter to for a couple of weeks after I wrote it, and when I realized I probably shouldn’t have sent it it was too late.

A month after I wrote the May 7th letter, I received the June 7th letter, which ended the correspondence and relationship. At the time I was devastated, though slightly relieved, but mostly felt voiceless to protest my own rejection. When I saw my ex around campus a few months later, I couldn’t bring myself to talk to him, but I couldn’t stay silent.

So I started this blog.

Though nowadays I want for nothing I lost in those letters, struggled for a long time with the pain and confusion of why this had to happen, and why this had to happen to me. Two months ago, around 1 a.m., I came up with a possible answer, and, naturally, put it in poem form. It’s nice to know that even when my life sometimes seems to lack a meaning or purpose, some part of my past will always have one. Enjoy!

You Promised Forever
By Maggie McGinity

You said you’d always be with me, and
Now that’s proving true,
For my definition of “with me” has
Altered through and through.
In this cautious, weary wording, I have
Immortalized you.
And maybe, baby, someday, these words will
Immortalize me, too.
So borne out of each devastating ‘never’:

Your promised Forever.”

Short story:

“If you can wait till I get home,
Then I swear to you
That we can make this last.
(La la la)
If you can wait till I get home,
Then I swear come tomorrow
This will all be in our past.
Well, it might be for the best.”
-“If It Means a Lot to You” by “A Day to Remember”

“Spare me just three last words.
‘I love you’ is all she heard.
I’ll wait for you, but I can’t wait forever.”
-“Ohio Is For Lovers” by Hawthorne Heights

“You know you can’t give me what I need,
And even though you mean so much to me,
I can’t wait through everything.
Is this really happening?
I swear I’ll never be happy again,
And don’t you dare say we can just be friends.
I’m not some boy that you can sway.
We knew it’d happen eventually”
-“If It Means a Lot to You” by “A Day to Remember”
